Yuma County Tornado Siren Tests 2022

Weekly siren tests are all set to begin in Yuma county starting Friday morning, April 1, 2022.

The irony of setting off the tornado siren on April Fool’s Day isn’t lost on us, but tornadoes are no laughing matter. The tornado sirens will be activated any time a tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service for the affected area.

In the event of a tornado warning, the sirens will blast for a full three minutes. Tornado sirens are a steady tone, not having the modulation you’d hear with a fire siren. The following video will give you an idea of what the tornado siren sounds like.

We will be performing short tests of all tornado sirens in Yuma County at 8:30 AM. These tests should last about 30 seconds. These tests are for all tornado sirens in Yuma County. These are located in Eckley, Idalia, Joes, Kirk, Laird, Vernon, Wray, and Yuma.

Siren tests will cease sometime around October 2022, although nothing has been decided at this time.
